Independent Researcher & Italian Language Instructor • Head of Development and Language Instruction at the Mantinea Institute
Andrea Rabassini is an educator and researcher with extensive experience in linguistic and humanities education for young adults and adults. Currently, he teaches at CPIA Alberto Manzi in La Spezia, Italy, where he leads courses in Italian, Italian as a second language, and a specialised course in cultural comprehension and expression. For the 2024-2025 academic year, he is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Genoa, teaching a course in Italian Language Didactics for Foreigners. He has been serving as an accredited examiner for the PLIDA certification issued by the Società Dante Alighieri to assess Italian language proficiency for many years.
Earlier, Andrea Rabassini graduated with honours in Philosophy from the University of Florence, continued his studies at the Italian Institute for Historical Studies in Naples, and earned his Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Turin. Since the beginning of his career, he has combined research and teaching, specialising in Italian language instruction for non-native speakers and in adult education methodologies.
Since 1996, Rabassini has been a speaker at numerous international conferences held at prestigious institutes and universities in Italy and abroad, including the International Society for Neoplatonic Studies, ILIESI-CNR (Rome), the Italian Institute of Renaissance Studies (Florence), and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He has collaborated with the Department of Philosophy at the University of Milan as a tutor, leading seminars and exams. Between 2018 and 2020, he oversaw certification activities at the PLIDA Examination Center at CPIA La Spezia, and since 2018, he has contributed to several Erasmus Plus projects, promoting educational collaboration across Europe.
An author of publications in scientific journals and collective volumes, his research focuses on theology and Renaissance philosophy, with a primary emphasis on the Neoplatonic tradition. In the field of didactics, he has published an article on innovative practices for teaching Italian as a second language, focusing on the link between language and employment.
At the Mantinea Institute, Andrea Rabassini coordinates various programmes for international students who seek to engage with the Italian language and culture, including summer schools and preparatory courses. He also ensures the quality of formation and adherence to our didactic approach, which promotes effective, culturally informed, engaging, and multimodal teaching methods.
